Add to basketSmall folio in illus brown and yellow jacket; 269 pages: illustrations; 28 cm. Thirty years ago, in vitro propagation was a new technique for producting plants. To help growers and propagators understand the process, Lydiane Kyte, who developed a plant propagation program for a commercial laboratory before building her own plant laboratory, wrote Plants from Test Tubes. In it she detailed the steps to designing, equipping, and operating a lab. She also furnished specific information on media preparation and a culture guide for dozens of species. Her book was soon accepted as the standard work on the subject, a role it continues even today. This fourth edition has been thoroughly revised and updated to reflect the many advances in science and technology, including the five (previously four) accepted sequential stages of micropropagation. Ten new plants have been added. This in turn has greatly expanded the already extensive bibliography. Among the new topics that have been introduced or expanded on are embryo culture for breeding, somaclonal variation, anther culture, somatic embryogenesis, cryopreservation, and genetic engineering. More ornamental plant examples are given and many new illustrations provided, including a chronology of discoveries in micropropagation.--COVER Contents: The basics of tissue culture. Culture guide to selected plants. Resources. Near fine in near fine jacket.
