The Plasmodiophorales: Including a Complete Host Index, Bibliography, and a Description of Diseases Caused by Species of This Order (Classic Reprint)

This book delves into the fascinating world of the Plasmodiophorales, a group of organisms often referred to as parasitic slime molds due to their unique life cycle and parasitic nature. These organisms play a significant role in plant pathology, impacting economically important crops, while also offering intriguing insights into the evolutionary history of lower fungi. The author expertly navigates through the complexities of the Plasmodiophorales, exploring their intricate life cycles, cellular structure, and reproductive processes. This book delves into historical debates surrounding the classification of these organisms, examining their relationships with other groups such as Myxomycetes, Chytridiales, and Protozoa. Central to the discussion is the concept of promitosis, a unique form of nuclear division observed in the Plasmodiophorales. The book explores the characteristics of promitosis and its implications for understanding the evolutionary origins and relationships of these organisms. This book also sheds light on the diseases caused by Plasmodiophorales, particularly club root of crucifers and powdery scab of potatoes. The author provides detailed descriptions of these diseases, their economic impact, and strategies for their control. By offering a comprehensive and insightful exploration of the Plasmodiophorales, this book provides valuable knowledge for researchers, students, and anyone interested in the intricate world of these remarkable organisms and their impact on plant life and agriculture.
