Playing To Win by Laurel Ames released on Jun 23, 1995 is available now for purchase.
Review: The wedding of Serafina Barclay and Tony Cairnbrooke is arranged by their parents before they even know each other very well. Tony has been involved in a scandalous duel with the husband of Madeleine Vonne, a woman he had a brief affair with. His family wants him married to avoid any further scandal. Sera's father would like to see her settled down to a man who wants more from her than her money. So, agreeing with their parents' wishes, Tony and Sera are wed. Tony's family has a mountain of debt that he tries to keep from Sera. Though Sera is financially capable of solving Tony's financial delimma, Tony feels he cannot be a proper husband to her until he settles his debt with her. His only goal is to clear his debt and seek revenge on the man who may have caused his father's financial ruin. In the meantime, he all but ignores Sera. Sera doesn't understand why her relationship with Tony is more like a friendship than a marriage. They seem to get along, but Tony is constantly pushing Sera away. She fears he may still be in love with Madeleine and determines that she must win her husband's love before Madeleine's husband kills him. Sera's interest in the theater and writing plays is the only satisfying thing in her life and something she must hide from Tony. Tony begins to suspect that his quiet, bookish wife is keeping secrets from him. First, he realizes she is masquerading as an actor in a play. Then he discovers poetry that she wrote, but assumes it was written by an admirer. Tony realizes that by keeping Sera at a distance he may lose her before he has a chance to show her how much he loves her. For Tony, pride may cost him his marriage but not if Sera can help it!Playing To Win is romantic and humorous a real winner! Regency fans will love Laurel Ames!
