Playscript brad-bound in red wrappers. Quarto. [N.p., n.d., ca. 1968]. Mimeographed sheets printed on the rectos only: [2], I-54; II-43pp. A musical in two acts, based on Samuel Taylor’s 1950 play of the same name. This is an early pre-production script, which includes the songs "Allez-Oop", "In His Own Good Time", "I’m Getting Younger Every Year" and "If You Leave Me Now", all of which were cut prior to the opening of the original Broadway production. Produced by David Merrick and directed by Gower Champion, the opening night cast included Robert Goulet as Jacques Bonnard, David Wayne as Grandpere Bonnard, and Jeanne Arnold as Suzanne Bonnard. The production won Tony Awards in the following categories: Best Actor in a Musical (Robert Goulet); Best Choreography (Gower Champion); and Best Direction of a Musical (Gower Champion). The play opened at the Broadway Theatre on January 18, 1968, and ran for a total of 286 performances. A bright, well-preserved copy with the title written in ink on the front cover, near fine.…
