Ink inscription to the front free end paper. George Brannon (1784-1860) was an engraver and topographical draughtsman, who lived on the Isle of Wight from 1809. This is his 'Shilling Pocket Guide' to the island for tourists, with a general description of the climate, geology, history, and population; information on the scenery, buildings of architectural interest, and towns and villages; and advice on taking tours around the island. Lacking the folding map. Undated, dated through copies held at the British Library. In the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps. Externally sound, with little creasing to the front of the paper wraps and shelf wear to the extremities. Lacking the rear of the paper wraps, with a couple of losses to the backstrip. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to pages 45 to 51. Lacking the folding map. Good. Seller Inventory # 883M20
