Synopsis
This first edition of a guide for researchers offers an overview of a broad range of subjects relating to US media and entertainment. Initial discussion of the industry as a whole covers such topics as emerging technology and career opportunities, and includes contacts for organizations and trade groups, Web sites for media information, and the budgets of several television projects. The bulk of the work is devoted to The Entertainment and Media 400, a series of page-long descriptions of the most successful firms in the industry. (Of these firms, only Cineplex Odeon is not US-based.) The descriptions are arranged alphabetically by company name, and provide information on such topics as business activities, affiliates, contacts, financial statistics from the early and mid-1990s, salaries, benefits, the firm's growth plan, and related matters. Firms are indexed by their location, industry, sales, brand names, and subsidiary names. No subject index. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
