William, the younger son of a Bournemouth solicitor, was educated at Canford School, spent six months exploring in West Africa under the aegis of a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship in the category of 'Exploration and adventure', and later read law at the Inns of Court School of Law in London, qualifying as a barrister. He was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1980.
Additionally, he spent several years teaching English, including spells at the Oxford School of English in London (Haymarket), and Pitman's School of English in Goodge Street.
William has been involved in publishing for many years. He wrote the first distance learning course on proofreading and copy-editing (Freelance MS, original website: www.freelancers.co.uk), and now runs an online training course (www.LearnFreelancing.com).
William recently worked as an editor-in-chief for a large group of Internet publishing companies and is a full-time writer.
