Item description from seller

Binding repaired, boards lightly soiled. 1877 Small Hard Cover. 346 pp. Profusely illustrated. A contemporary of Noah Webster, Joseph Emerson Worcester was a lexicographer who also worked on Webster's Dictionary, but published several dictionaries and other reference works as well. He and Webster engaged in what are now known as The Dictionary Wars, in which Webster slung accusations of plagiarism, while Worcester maintained that his work was his own.
