Dr. Robert George Sprackland, a self-described "Ambassador for Reptiles", has studied herpetology and paleontology at the University of Kansas, San José State University, and University College London. He is a world-recognized authority on monitor lizards, having spent over 50 years studying these lizards. He has produced over 100 articles on herpetology and is a strong advocate of quality science education. Among the subjects he has published are toxins, teaching, military and science history, sharks and rays, management, and high-technology. Some of his fieldwork was featured on the television show O’'Shea’s Big Adventure, and he has served as a zoological consultant to BBC and the Discovery Channel.

The Guide to Lizards (2010) is Robert's most recently published book. He is presently working on a book about his late dog, King, and the broader picture of what, largely through King, humans know about animal intelligence. The working title is I am King. He also has books on dinosaur physiology and animal venoms in preparation.
