Poem Detectives: Creative approaches for writing and editing poems

Poem Detectives is for anyone who knows some poem basics and wants to explore this world of words further. Although it's primarily written for upper primary to lower secondary students (Years 7-10). As poem detectives, students will focus on poems or pieces of poems, discovering and deciphering patterns and tricks to help them in their own writing.

This book: inspires students' curiosity about the process of creating and editing poems while also building their confidence to tackle it; includes a wide selection of class warm-ups to mix and match with the lesson-length activities; shows how to identify patterns and techniques in other people's poems that students can apply to their own writing; encourages free play with words and experimentation with topics ranging from baked beans to Star Wars offers practical guidance on poem performance and competitions.

Liz Breslin is a poet, playwright, columnist, editor and teacher. From slams to galloping iambs, she enjoys bringing words alive with students of all ages, gifted and talented classes and workshop groups. Liz has performed around New Zealand and the United Kingdom and came second runner-up in the 2014 New Zealand National Poetry Slam. Her work has been published at home, overseas and online.
