Item description from seller

115 pp. Octavo [21.5 cm]. Maroon cloth over boards. Gilt title on front board and spine. Book is in great condition; dust jacket is slightly worn on fore-edge. "[.]the poems selected by Hamburger lie mostly outside the official cannon: experiments, unfinished workings, drafts and fragments. If some are 'occasional pieces,' the are such from the hands of a master craftsman. Largely these poems probe and explore depths and angles partially hidden by the poet's public persona. Poems expressing uncertainty, doubt and despair-as well as moments of transcendence-these intimate works further round out Rilke's complex stature, revealing a kinship to D. H. Lawrence, alongside that of Nietzsche and Holderlin."-from front dj flap. This dual-language edition includes forty-three poems.
