Poems: by Emily Brontë (The Lightbound Library)

The fierce, solitary voice behind Wuthering Heights - in her own poems.

Before she wrote her single immortal novel, Emily Brontë was a poet of the Yorkshire moors, publishing under the pen name "Ellis Bell." This collection gathers her published poetic canon, verse of startling power and independence written far from the literary world, in the isolation that shaped her singular imagination.

Among these poems stand some of the most quoted lines in English literature: the grief-stricken devotion of Remembrance ("Cold in the earth, and fifteen wild Decembers"), the unbreakable faith of No Coward Soul Is Mine, the visionary The Prisoner, and the flinty resolve of The Old Stoic. Passionate, mystical, and defiant, Emily Brontë's poetry reveals the same untamed spirit that burns through Heathcliff and Catherine.
