24mo. Undated, but presumed 19th century. Pocket sized complete works of Milton and a short biography of the poet by Elijah Fenton. Frontispiece portrait of Milton facing title. Dark green/black embossed leather boards with gilt lettering on spine. Loss to leather at top left corner of spine, edge wear, rubbing and bumped corners on the boards overall. Notes and writing on pastedowns and front/back free end papers. Stains and toning on edges. Stains, toning, creased corners and foxing throughout, though never obscuring the text. Gutters cracked in a few places, but sewn binding still intact. Still a charming little volume - perfect for pulling out of the breast pocket of your fine tailcoat to impress the evening salon with an impassioned reading of Paradise Lost for three or four hours.
