7 volume set (complete). 2nd ed. (1809). 217; 462; 473; 395; 503; 503; 407pp + index (vol.1) + appendix (vol.7). Bound in maroon buckram with leather title label with gilt lettering to each spine, all edges marbled. All vols VG copies, bindings square and tight, cloth covers clean, some gentle sunning to spines, title labels a little rubbed and worn, some light foxing and damp staining to prelims, otherwise internally very good. Contemporary ink name on vol.1 original ffep, along with a different name to each title page verso deleted. From the private library of English Establishment artist Sir Lawrence Gowing (1918-1991), although no indication of provenance appears in the book. It was likely acquired from his first wife, English writer and Bloomsbury group member Julia Strachey (1901-1979), as many of his older books were.
