Item description from seller

A smart, uniformly bound set of the poetical works of Reverend George Crabbe. Edited by his son, A.M. Crabbe. Complete in eight volumes. George Crabbe (24 December 1754 3 February 1832) was an English poet, surgeon and clergyman. He is best known for his early use of the realistic narrative form and his descriptions of middle and working-class life and people. Crabbe's poetry was predominantly in the form of heroic couplets, and has been described as unsentimental in its depiction of provincial life and society. This set is a New Edition published in 1847. Each volume contains a previous owner's ink inscription to the front free-endpaper: 'Archibald P. Nervius, From his affectionate sister, 10th October 1849'. Uniformly rebound in paper-covered boards with contemporary front free-endpapers. Externally, very smart. Some minor shelf wear to each volume, a couple small chips in the binding on volume 6. A small ink mark to the tail-edge of Volume 8. Previous owner's ink inscription to front free-endpaper of each volume. Internally, frontispiece to Volume 2 is detached but present, otherwise volumes are firmly bound. Tidemark to the frontispiece and title page of Volume 4. Tape residue and small tear to a front free-endpaper of Volume 4. Tape residue to the rear free-endpaper and pastedown of Volume I. Scattered spots to the first and last pages of all volumes. A few scattered contemporary pencil annotations through all volumes. Otherwise, pages are very clean. Very Good.…
