This is a handsome, antique copy of "The Poetical Works of SIR WALTER SCOTT, Bart." 1874; D. Appleton and Company; New York. Complete in One Volume - With All His Introductions and Notes, and Various Readings, and the Editor's Notes. "Elegantly Illustrated" with full-page engraved plates with tissue guards. Nicely bound in full, decorative leather with five raised bands on the spine, gilt page edges on all sides of the text block, gilt lettering on the covers and spine, marbled end papers, and gilt accents along the edges of the boards. There is an Index at the back. Works include "The Lady of the Lake," "Marmion," "The Lay of the Last Minstrel," "Rokeby," "Verses from Waverley," "From Ivanhoe," "From Quentin Durward," "From The Pirate," etc. Condition: Some rubbing of the leather along the edges of the boards and spine. Three of the cover corners have a small tear to the leather at the outer tips. Bright gilt lettering on the covers; the gilt on the spine has somewhat dulled. There are some small nicks to the leather on the back cover and spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. Both covers are securely attached. The paper along the hinge between the rear end paper and pastedown has split (though the back cover remains securely in place). The gilt on the text block has somewhat dulled; there are some areas on the top and bottom edges of the text block where the gilt has chipped away. The pages are age-toned (though not brittle) with occasional foxing, primarily to the illustrated plates and to the pages before/after them. Name written in old ink handwriting on the front end paper. The tissue guard over the frontispiece is creased/folded with foxing. Overall the book is in Good condition.
