Posthumously published poetry collection by the Dutch poet Pieter Rabus.L3035Half leather binding with some wear, Quarto edition, 4º: * 4 A-3G 4 (3G4 chi1).Interior in good condition, on one page pencil stripes under the text. At the end some pages with wormholes. [NL] Groot titelvignet door J.C. Philips, 1740, met centraal een medaillonportret van Rabus geflankeerd door een gezicht op Rotterdam en een Grieks landschap met het gevleugelde paard Pegasus op de top van de dichtberg, voorts een uitslaande portretgravure van Rabus door Jacob Houbraken naar Bodekker. Smit, Kalliope I, p.688-705; De Vet, Pieter Rabus, een wegbereider van de Noordnederlandse Verlichting (Amsterdam 1980).Bijna veertig jaar na de dood van Pieter Rabus verzorgde Pieter junior een uitgave van zijn vaders gedichten, waarvan een aantal niet eerder was gedrukt. Hij schrijft in het voorwoord uiteindelijk gezwicht te zijn voor het argument dat ze anders wellicht door dezen of genen baatzuchtigen boekverkooper zonder keure of uitzondering en dus voor den voet weg [.] zouden nagedrukt en gemeen gemaakt worden. Naast godsdienstige en gelegenheidsgedichten bevat de bundel onder meer 'Verlost Britanje' uit 1689, een omvangrijk heldendicht (100 pagina's) over koning-stadhouder Willem III, die Groot-Brittannië voor een katholieke troonopvolger had weten te behoeden. W.A.P. Smit schrijft in 'Kalliope in de Nederlanden' dat hij in geen enkele openbare bibliotheek een exemplaar van de oorspronkelijke uitgave had aangetroffen, maar in de STCN worden niet minder dan zeven vindplaatsen opgegeven.Pieter Rabus (1660-1702) is vooral bekend als oprichter/redacteur van het tijdschrift Boekzaal van Europa en vertegenwoordiger van de Verlichting in Nederland.…
