Very good in blue cloth, gilt lettering to spine, x+261. Owners signature on the free endpaper of T. E. St Johnston, he was Sir Thomas Eric St Johnston (1911–1986) was a pioneering British police leader who served as Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary. His Early Life & Career: Born on January 7, 1911, he was educated at Bromsgrove School and Corpus Christi College, Oxford. Scholarly Commons: Northwestern Pritzker School of Law +2Chief Constable Roles: He became Britain's youngest-ever Chief Constable, leading three police forces—Oxfordshire, Durham, and Lancashire—serving in Lancashire from 1950. Credited with transforming modern British policing, he is widely regarded as the "father" of the panda car (the small patrol vehicle scheme). He served as Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary from 1967 until his retirement in 1970. He passed away on March 17, 1986.
