Item description from seller

San Francisco: Bancroft-Whitney, 1932. [California Political Code]. Deering, James H[enry], [1858-1953], Editor. The Political Code of the State of California. Adopted March 12, 1872. With Amendments up to and Including Those of the Forty-Ninth Session of the Legislature, 1931. San Francisco: Bancroft-Whitney, 1932. Three volumes. xvi, 1125; ix, 1127-2303; xvii, 3675-5690 pp. Octavo (9" x 6"). Publisher's maroon limp buckram, with gilt stamped spines and front boards. Worn and rubbed, with some bumping to extremities. Early owner's ink signature "W.T. Belieu" to front free endpapers. Internally clean. A good set. $150. * The Political Code was one of four initial codes enacted in California in 1872, the others being the Civil Code, Code of Civil Procedure, and Penal Code. The Political Code originally dealt with the organization and function of the state government, including things like election laws, public offices, and state property. It provides a snapshot of California's state law at that specific time and is a valuable historical resource for understanding the development of public law and government administration in early 20th-century California. Most of the material compiled in this 1932 text was eventually broken apart and reclassified into modern statutory locations during California's massive mid-20th-century code restructuring. Today, these laws reside primarily within the modern California Government Code and California Elections Code. This copy was owned by W[illiam] T. Belieu, a prominent judge in Glenn County, California from 1940-1955. (glenn.courts.ca.gov/general-information/history-statistics-attraction s/former-judges).
