Synopsis
A Political Dialogue - What it means to be human from the local to the global. This book is a product of series of interviews with his close friend Eric Kohn which deal with campaigning on a number of big issues, from the local to the global, from the personal to the controversial, all of which can be summed up in three words – Educate, Agitate and Organise – arising out of our common concern to defend the Enlightenment values of reason, secularism and internationalism. This is a fascinating and thought-provoking book which is a true 'must read' for all thinking people throughout the modern world. “By reflecting on key tenets of humanism, A Political Dialogue identifies the core challenges which must be addressed by contemporary socio-political thinkers. The political, historical, and philosophical reflections offer a positive vision to contemporary dilemmas and seeks to challenge orthodoxies of thought and practice across local, national, and global politics” Gavin Barber, Lecturer in Politics, University of Edinburgh “This unique and outstanding work is to be highly recommended to anyone interested in the wider and deeper issues of politics. I was attracted by the novel structure of non-fictional storytelling which makes it a very interesting read and what has made the writer tick after 70 years of active involvement.” Margaret McGregor, Former Deputy Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh "Ray has thought deep and long about the difficult issues of our rapidly changing world. The dialogue format makes it easy and fascinating to read as it moves seamlessly from the personal to the political and from the local to the global. Read it and enjoy talking politics again! It's a fantastic catalyst for debate." Ian Murray, Ray's Member of Parliament for Edinburgh South
