Fair. 4th Edition. Fourth Edition 1795, 286pp. Boards and spine generally worn, stained and in indifferent condition.PO name tp front pastedown probably contemporary. Stain to inside front board and fep. The folding map is mainly missing with just one segment still present.the remaining 2 plates are in good condition. Periodic light spotting. This is a very readable copy of a scarce title. The fourth edition differs from the second edition in that the editor's supplement is expanded from four to ten chapters, the extra ones dealing with other aspects of coastal defence, military systems and art. The second plan of defensive measures was engraved by William Faden. An interesting title when referenced against the political climate in France due to the French Revolution and the very real fears of invasion.(286pp).
