Politics in American Life: A Thematic and Policy Approach

Politics in American Life: A Thematic and Policy Approach provides a broad overview of issues and concerns in American politics that are designed to be both accessible and relevant to students. The anthology encourages readers to think critically regarding political issues that directly affect them and cultivate new levels of political understanding and engagement.

The book is divided into sections according to theme. Section I addresses political culture, namely how America has grown more and more divided over time as a result of social change. Students read articles that address issues related to racial and gender inequality. Section II focuses on political participation, including readings that explore the factors that influence voter turnout, problematic features of the American party system, and the economic context of campaigning for office during elections. The final section includes readings that address contemporary American federalism, health care reform, and the debate over illegal immigration.

Providing students with relevant, thought-provoking information, Politics in American Life is an ideal text for introductory courses in American politics and government, as well as public policy.
