No markings or inscriptions. Bound in original tan/brown cloth with green, printed spine labels. The labels of Vol. I are dulled, but Vol. II bright. The cloth is darkened/patinated with age and handling; top edge a little dusty. The contents are very clean, and the hinges very strong. Vol. I includes: History of Vesuvius; Historical Notice of Pompeii; Public Roads; Baths; Theatres etc. Vol. II contains an account of the domestic habits of the inhabitants. Vol. I published 1831; Vol. II 1832. Published under the superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge; pp. 2 advert at end of Vol. I; list of committee members included.
