“I am what I am, Olives, and that is
All I am,” Popeye told his partner as
They walked along with their dear, sweet, Swee’Pea
In tow. It was New York or Paris or
Chicago, no palms or palmettos, just
Elms and oaks and juniper trees about
The urban park in which they walked, early
Sunday morning, sunny, no clouds skyward.
Then a gang of youths surrounded Popeye
And Olive and Swee’Pea, threatening them
With a world of hurt, “getting Medieval,”
One of these jokers said to Sir Popeye,
So he cracked open a can of spinach,
And kicked their bony, sorry asses good.
