(no dust jacket, but is protected by a custom-cut plastic jacket) [slight bumping and modest wear to corners and spine ends; one-time owner's name and circumstances of the book's purchase in ink at the top of the Foreword page; several chow-related newspaper clippings glued to otherwise mostly blank pages in both the front and rear of the book]. (line drawings) As the title says. This is the second edition of a book first published in 1928, one of a number of similarly-titled volumes in the "Popular Dog" series ("The Popular Pekingese," "The Popular Cocker Spaniel," you get the idea; nine different titles, including this one, are advertised at the end of the volume). The co-author, Mrs. Baer (of Baltimore), contributed only Chapter VIII, entitled "The Chow Chow in America." This edition has its own introduction, by Alice O. Fullerton, operator (or perhaps just resident) of "The Nea Kennels, Polshot Farm, Elstead, Godalming, Surrey." ("Godalming" sounds something like what I uttered when I read that address for the first time.) I wonder if the publisher had a subsidiary called Unpopular Dogs Publishing Company.…

Welcome to ReadInk (rhymes with "Dead Ink"), now in our 29th year of putting interesting books into the hands of interested people. **** Although I occasionally lapse into the "royal we" voice, ReadInk is just me, from one end of the pipeline to the other: buying, cataloging, customer service, shipping, you name it. Nothing here is automated, and every order or inquiry gets my prompt, personal attention. **** In describing a book's physical condition, I employ standard book-grading terminology (Good/Very Good/Fine, with various in-between gradations as appropriate) and do my best to avoid both excessive jargon and overly-finicky detail. My goal is always to present a faithful impression of a book's condition and appearance; significant flaws are individually noted, or if too numerous are succinctly summarized. **** Books are more than just physical objects, however: they are also intellectual/information vessels, and in almost every case I also include some information about a book's content in my listing, even if it's only a carefully chosen quotation from the dust jacket copy. (This may sound like a small thing, but take a look sometime and you'll see how amazingly few sellers bother with this, especially in the case of older fiction, which is one of my specialties.) **** I take great care (and pride) in my packaging of books for shipment; I figure it's my responsibility to ensure that each book I send out will withstand the rigors of the U.S. Postal System, and will reach its new owner in the same condition as advertised. We grade our books conservatively (Fine being our highest grade, used only for books with no discernible flaws) and package them liberally: most hardcover books are sent in boxes, securely wrapped and cushioned, and with the dust jacket (if present) protected by a new mylar cover. We provide a concise, accurate description of the condition of every book (and a scanned image of the actual book on offer); please get in touch by email if you need additional information. All books are returnable for a full refund if not A-OK.
Shipping terms
We offer free Media Mail shipping for all domestic (U.S.) orders, and endeavor to keep our Priority Mail rates as reasonable as possible. International shipping in most instances will be via USPS First Class International mail, at the posted rates. Only on rare occasions do we request additional shipping charges, when warranted by the weight or value of the book. Our first priority always is TOP-QUALITY PACKAGING, for MAXIMUM PROTECTION of your book, and we will never compromise on this point.
