Two separate maps appear on this sheet -- the upper of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and the lower of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Though dated 1815, the maps are from the 1817 edition of Thomson's Atlas. There is considerable detail of the Virgin Islands. Numerous bays and points are named on St. Thomas, a fort is indicated on Virgin Gordo (sic), and "the Bay" and "the Road" are noted on Tortola. Many of the smaller islands in the present-day BVI are identified, including Guana, Peter, Norman, Ginger Coopers, and "the Dead Chest." Phillips, A List of Geographical Atlases in the Library of Congress: 731. Old outline color. Tears (less than 1/2" each) and soiling outside of neat line along lower right edge for about 10." Occasional very light soiling and foxing. All in all, a very nice example. Sheet size: 21 x 27 1/2." Porto Rico and Virgin Isles: 9 1/4 x 23 3/4." Haiti, Hispaniola or St. Domingo: 11 x 23 3/4.".
