Kathy Adams Clark has been a professional nature photographer since 1995. Her photographs have appeared in publications including AAA Journey, Nature's Best, the New York Times, Birder's World, and Family Fun. Texas Parks & Wildlife and Texas Highways magazines have featured her images on their covers. Her photos appear every week in the "Nature" column in the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express News, written by her husband, Gary Clark. Kathy and Gary have published five books, with two more in the works.
Kathy has served as the president of the North American Nature Photography Association. She teaches photography and is a popular speaker a local and national events. She leads photo workshops to Costa Rica, Ecuador, Africa, Italy, Peru, and Morocco through Strabo Tours. Kathy remains a proud native Texan; her family settled in Texas in 1845.
Gary Clark is the weekly nature columnist for the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express News. He also publishes feature articles in state and national magazines and has written four books, including Texas Wildlife Portfolio, Texas Gulf Coast Impressions, Backroads of the Texas Hill Country, and Enjoying Big Bend National Park. Gary is a contributing author in the book Pride of Place: A Contemporary Anthology of Texas Nature Writing. He has won eight writing awards and is the recipient of the 2004 Excellence in Media Award and the 2010 Synergy Media Award for Environmental Reporting.
Gary, whose family came to Texas in 1842, has been active in the Texas birding community for over thirty-five years. He founded the Piney Woods Wildlife Society in 1982 and the Texas Coast Rare Bird Alert in 1983. He served as president of the Houston Audubon Society from 1989 to 1991 and acquired the North American Rare Bird Alert service for Houston Audubon in 1990. He was vice president of the board of directors for the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory from 2001 to 2008. He currently sits on the board of advisors for the Houston Audubon Society and Gulf Coast Bird Observatory.
Gary is a professor at Lone Star College–North Harris and a recipient of the Teacher Excellence Award. During his collegiate career, Gary has also served as Vice President of Instruction; Dean of Business, Social, and Behavioral Sciences; and Dean of Natural Sciences.
