A 1960 reprint of the 1947 issuance. Editor Charles David Ley has assembled contemporary accounts of various important voyages of discovery by Portuguese mariners, such as Vasco da Gama. These explorations led to the colonization of Brazil, the introduction of Christianity into Abyssinia, and new oceanic routes to Africa and India. Entry 986 in Everyman's Library Poetry series. --- In Everyman's Library larger format binding style 4. Full green cloth-covered boards with spine titling and interlocked "EL" at tail of spine both stamped in copper-look foil; orange topstain. In green dust jacket with Adam Turyn drawing of Portuguese interacting with native peoples to front panel. --- A sound copy: bright and tightly-bound, though with 10 cm. strip of discoloration to back cover & shallow creases to corners of a few leaves. Unclipped, unpriced jacket in excellent condition but with chafing to spine ends, and wrapped in removable clear plastic protector.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; xxii, 360, 16 (ads) pages.
