The Position of the Author

Examines the position of authorship both through the conventions of portraiture as applied to writers, and to the discrepancies between being in the role of the author and writing itself. Portraits of various authors, as typically found on book dust jackets, convey the personality of the author through body language, pose, and props. Behind these portraits are scenes of various personal library collections, reading spaces and bookshelves. The book includes an essay on Diderot by critic Colin Gardner.
