The rapid growth and acceptance of Post-Modernism notwithstanding, much of the general public is hard put to define it. This beautifully produced book describes the movement's vibrant use of ornament, symbolism, and color while reinterpreting the traditional design values we all recognize. After the minimalist and technocratic approach of the 1960s and early 1970s, architects are relearning Greek and Roman design and reusing it, often with irony, in everything from a structure's shell to its silverware. Several dozen architects, designers, and manufacturers are featured, including Hans Hollein, Michael Graves, Robert Venturi, and Stanley Tigerman. A book that is both intellectually stimulating and visually exciting.
