Savu (language and literature, U. of Bucharest, Romania) became interested in how canonical authors were being used in recent British and American literature. When she set off on that path of research, she discovered an entire genre--life writing--and such matters as the fictional uses of historical authors, the trope of the posthumous, theories of authorship, the practice of rewriting, and the relationship between postmodernism and other aesthetic and cultural paradigms. Among her topics are writing in the margins of an endless novel, Peter Ackroyd's The Last Testament of Oscar Wilde and Chatterton, Peter Carey's Jack Maggs, Colm Tóibín's The Master, and Virginia Woolf among other artists.
