About the Author
Mario Iezzoni grew up in Pennsylvania s Appalachian Mountains. The rapids of the Lehigh River that flowed below his hometown of Summit Hill intrigued him as a child. With a Geography degree in his back pocket, a Kapok lifejacket, a lacrosse helmet and a handmade fiberglass racing kayak, Mario became one of the Lehigh s original river guides. For eleven years it was his livelihood, and now is his legacy. In 1983 Mario published a guide to paddling the Lehigh River Gorge. It s still in publication. His writing career continued as an editorial activist publishing several articles about regulating the Lehigh River. Mario wanted to write a story about the early era of river guiding. What it was like to be a part of the odd culture so clearly depicted by cartoonist William Nealy s creative perspective the mindset and how it affected the outcome of their lives. The Postulant shuttles you to the core of this whitewater culture. It is entertaining, informative, gripping and fun to read. The Postulant is also a love story sewn with a whole lot of adventure. Read it on those long drives to your favorite river, or when you show up at the put-in and find that the river is too high, or you ve forgotten your spray-skirt and have to sit around all day until your buddies get off the river. Mario believes that since Deliverance no one has written an authentically gripping story. His story has traveled thousands of river miles and has finally reached its destination. He s done a good job with it. Read it and see for yourself. Mario lives in New Port Richey, Florida and is currently working on his second novel, Kracker Flats.
