Danita Johnson Hughes is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Edgewater Systems for Balanced Living, Inc. a comprehensive human services provider organization specializing in behavioral health and child welfare services and located in Gary, Indiana. Prior to joining Edgewater Systems, she held various positions in the mental health and human services fields. Mrs. Hughes is a graduate of Indiana University with both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Public Administration. She also holds a Masters degree in Social Service Administration and a graduate certificate in Health Administration and Policy from the University of Chicago. She is licensed as a Health Facility Administrator in Indiana. Currently she is a doctoral candidate.
Mrs. Hughes is very active in professional and civic activities and holds several seats on a variety of local and national boards of directors and advisory councils. Her professional interest lies in improving overall community well being by working to impact policies that affect at-risk children and families.
She is an avid runner, running up to 7 miles a day, 5-6 times per week. She has completed 6 marathons. Mrs. Hughes also makes porcelain dolls as a hobby. She has won several awards for her work. She collects dolls as well, and has a doll collection of over 250 dolls in her home.
