My roots run deep in the southern soil. My ancestors liked to fight. They were in the middle of the Revolution, at odds during the civil war and together again for WWI and II. Ty Cobb and Johnny Mize called my great-grandfather Uncle Billy.
My father was born in log cabin. By age seven I understood the meaning of a long row to hoe. In Alabama, playing football is what you did if you wanted a girlfriend. I got way more education than I knew what to do with. My real education came after I went to work.
In addition to the family farm, I worked as a furniture assembler, lifeguard, paper boy, waiter, cookie salesman, and oil field roustabout. After paying my dues I worked as an owner and CEO of an insurance brokerage firm, university teacher, and talk show host. Now I do what I please and it pleases me to manage a B&B, and coach tennis.
A few years ago I turned away from the financial engine that had been so good to me. We had helped thousands and paid out millions to families in their time of need. It was a worthy pursuit. I wasn't fully aware of my motivations for going in another direction, but I now understand I wanted a greater return on my investments of time and energy. I could only find that in the realm of ideas and an other worldly system of compensation.
I write because I can't help it. If you read my book and don't get an idea that is worth 100 times the cost of the book I will send you a refund. I am serious. Let me know at Claiborne.mize@gmail.com
