Synopsis
Atlantic Research Partners has created, Power of Teaching, an effective tool that provides assistance, guidance and support for teachers and those who work with teachers to improve teaching and learning. Based on significant and peer-reviewed research, the findings on the HOW of teaching provide constructive holistic and behaviorally measurable guidance to help teachers improve student learning. Power of Teaching is based on what teaching researchers and pedagogy experts tell us does work to help teachers become more effective. Learning about and practicing the Power Sources in Power of Teaching can make a huge difference in how teachers teach and how students learn.
About the Author
Joseph Wise served as Superintendent of Schools for the Jacksonville, FL (Duval County) Public Schools and as Superintendent of Schools for Christina School District in Wilmington, Delaware. In Jacksonville, Wise led the academic plans and programs and directed all strategic efforts for the district's 126,000 students and 14,000 employees. His work, Power of Teaching results from an 8-year study with co-author David Sundstrom to help increase the effectiveness of school leaders and coaches in their support of classroom teachers. Dr. Wise also served as Chief Education Officer with Edison Learning, which provides programs and services for 340,000 in 25 U.S. states and in the UK. Wise also continues service on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) a non-profit assessment firm that supports teaching and learning for more than 4 million students in more than 3,100 school districts in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Wise has earned numerous honors including being named the 2006 Champion for Children, presented by HOSTS Learning organization, and lifetime memberships in the NAACP and The Florida Association of PTAs. In 2006, Wise was appointed to the National Commission on Writing for America's Families, Schools, and Colleges, and appointed to the Eli Broad Urban Superintendents Academy as a Fellow (2003). Wise currently serves as Managing Director for Atlantic Research Partners. He brings a wide variety of experiences gained while serving in executive leadership positions in education and private industry. These experiences include service in Human Resources and Organizational Development with The Walt Disney Company and eSchool Solutions, Inc., a technology firm where he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Wise is a noted researcher, speaker, author, and advisor on matters related to teaching & learning, school reform, and leadership and organizational effectiveness.
