On the Practicability of an Invasion of British India: And on the Commercial and Financial Prospects and Resources of the Empire (Classic Reprint)

A provocative examination of a potential invasion of British India and the high-stakes consequences for global power and trade.

This work surveys strategic ideas, historical precedents, and the commercial prospects of the empire to assess feasibility, risk, and reward.

The author argues that imperial strength depends on secure revenues and a stable base for manufacturing and commerce. It also weighs the roles of rival powers, treaties, and regional politics, offering a vantage on how distant decisions could reshape the balance of power in Europe and Asia.

• Considers routes and logistics for an overland advance toward India, including the Caspian corridor and Oxus line.
• Explores how rival empires, especially Russia, might influence India’s security and trade.
• Connects political strategy with commercial outcomes and imperial finances.
• Reflects on historical examples and policy implications for British governance in the region.

Ideal for readers of 19th-century imperial policy, strategic history, and geopolitical analysis.
