This book is a short practical guide to environmental enforcement law. It is intended to be a helpful resource for established practitioners as well as an introduction to those new to the subject and a useful tool for those advising both organisations and individuals on environmental enforcement as well as those tasked with the duties of environmental regulation.
The subjects covered include waste and water offences, investigatory powers, enforcement notices, criminal proceedings and sentencing and civil sanctions. The book also provides a summary of corporate and individual liability for environmental offences. Key provisions of relevant environmental legislation are highlighted, together with selected quotes from key authorities on the application of the law in practice. Further commentary provides expert analysis on the interpretation and implementation of environmental law.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Christopher Badger is a barrister at 6 Pump Court where he specialises in environmental enforcement, acting for both corporate and individual defendants and on behalf of the Environment Agency. He edits ‘Environmental Law News’, and has contributed to previous environmental law books. He has twice has been asked to speak at the Environment Agency’s National Conference and was appointed to the ‘A’ List of Specialist Regulatory Counsel in June 2012. Chris is ranked as the ‘Star Individual’ in environmental law in the Chambers & Partners UK Bar Guide.
Stuart Jessop is a specialist regulatory and public law barrister practising from 6 Pump Court, Temple, London. He is ranked in the legal 500 directory as a leading junior in Environmental law and is on the ‘A’ panel of specialist advocates for the Environment Agency. He has a particular interest in the law in respect of waste, water and nuisance but his practice extends to all aspects of environmental law.
