About this Item
The full title reads: The Practical House Carpenter: Being a complete development of the Grecian orders of Architecture, methodised and arranged in such a simple, plain, and comprehensive manner, as to be easily understood; each example being fashioned to the Style and Practice of the Present Day; containing one example of the Tuscan Order, three examples of the Doric Orders, three examples of the Ionic Order, one example of the Corinthian Order, and one example of the Composite Order, with all their details drawn to a large scale: to which are added a series of designs for Porticos, Frontispieces, Doors, Windows, Caps and Sills, Sash-frames, Sashes and Shutters, Base and Sur-base Mouldings, Architraves, Chimney-pieces, Trusses for Roofs and Partitions, Stairs, &c., engraved on sixty four large quarto copper plates. Fourth edition. Hardcover. Bound in full leather. Top half of the spine is missing. Leather is worn and scuffed, but binding is tight. 118 pages + plates. Plates 16 is bound in twice and plate 17 is missing. This seems to be a 175 year old binding errors, not a missing piece. Book measures 9.25 x 11 inches. There is some foxing and some moisture blooms, in the margin at the top (very faint, through most of the book) and at the bottom outside corner (a tone or two darker, affecting the second half of the book). These darker semi-circles do affect the plates, as well as the text pages. Please email with questions or to request photos -- foxing and stains are quite normal for this book. A scarce American builder's guide, with the full suite of copper plates.
