Practical Lectures in Dermatology collects fifteen lectures delivered by Condict W. Cutler to medical students at the University of Vermont Medical Department during the 1892-93 academic session, offering a structured, classroom-based approach to dermatological education rather than a formal reference treatise. The lectures proceed systematically from the anatomy of the skin, lesions, and diagnostic classification (Lecture I) through general therapeutics (Lecture II), before moving into specific conditions grouped by lecture: acne, alopecia, and alopecia areata; asteatosis, chloasma, clavus, comedo, dermatitis venenata, and ecthyma; eczema (given its own full lecture); epithelioma, erysipelas, and the erythemas; and feigned skin diseases, furunculosis, herpes, herpes zoster, and hyperidrosis, among further lectures not shown in the available table of contents. This structure - moving through common conditions in a teaching sequence rather than alphabetically or by strict classification - makes the book a useful window into how dermatology was actually taught to American medical students in the early 1890s. Cutler was an active New York dermatologist and prolific author in the field, and the rear advertisement page of this copy lists his other works published by Putnam, including a Manual of Differential Medical Diagnosis and a Differential Diagnosis of the Diseases of the Skin, both part of the "Students' Manuals Series" - useful context for collectors interested in Cutler's broader publishing output and Putnam's contemporary medical-education catalogue. Condition & Binding: The book is bound in the publisher's original dark green cloth boards with gilt lettering to the spine. Condition is good: the boards show light general wear with a bit of rubbing at the spine ends and corners, but no major fraying, staining, or fading is evident. The binding appears tight and structurally sound based on the images provided, with no visible hinge cracking. Internally, the text block shows light, even age-toning typical of the period; the pages photographed are clean with no foxing, tears, or losses apparent. Overall- Very good.…
