A Practical View Of The Present State Of Slavery In The West Indies: Or An Examination Of Mr. Stephen's Slavery Of The British West India Colonies (1826)

A Practical View of the Present State of Slavery in the West Indies is a book written by Alexander Barclay in 1826. The book is an examination of the arguments made by James Stephen in his work Slavery of the British West India Colonies. Barclay provides a practical analysis of the state of slavery in the West Indies and the impact it has on the lives of slaves. He argues that slavery is a brutal and inhumane system that must be abolished. The book provides a detailed account of the conditions faced by slaves in the West Indies and the ways in which they are exploited by their masters. Barclay also discusses the economic arguments made in favor of slavery and refutes them with evidence of the negative impact of slavery on the economy of the West Indies. The book is an important work in the history of the abolitionist movement and provides a valuable insight into the arguments made by both sides of the debate over slavery. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
