This Is NOT Your Practice Life: Volume II: Your Place in the Universe

What if the way you see the world is shaping who you become?

In Volume II of This Is NOT Your Practice Life, Donald J. Conte takes readers on a philosophical and scientific exploration of perception, identity, uncertainty, and human existence itself. Blending geology, psychology, physics, history, literature, and everyday experience, these essays challenge assumptions about time, motion, meaning, and the self.

Why do mountains disappear yet still remain?
Why do cultures slowly shift without noticing?
Why do people mistake movement for progress, certainty for truth, and convention for reality?

Beginning with humanity’s small place in deep time and moving through questions of perception, interconnection, knowledge, and responsibility, this volume traces a deliberate intellectual journey. Along the way, Conte examines how individuals construct meaning in a universe that is vast, dynamic, and often misleading.

Neither purely philosophy nor purely science, this collection occupies the space between them - inviting readers to reconsider not only the world around them, but also the interpretations through which they experience it.

This is a book about:

• Time and scale
• Perception and misinterpretation
• Identity and self-construction
• Human interconnectedness
• Decision-making under uncertainty
• The limits of knowledge
• Creating meaning in an unpredictable world

Provocative, reflective, and accessible, This Is NOT Your Practice Life: Volume II — Your Place in the Universe challenges readers to confront a central realization:

You are not merely observing the cosmos.

You are participating in and making it.
