Second enlarged edition printed in Venice. The text is based on the author's lectures on ophthalmology from 1708, detailing his observations, including his description of the function of the eye as a telescopic- or microscopical-functioning organ (referring to Galileo's invention), providing glasses, and various conditions of the eye. These include: amaurosis, cataracts, conjunctivitis, hallucinations, lachrymal ducts and glands, misalignment of the eyes, myopia, nyclatopia (night blindness), ocular tumors (elephantiasis), ophthalmia, presbyopia, squinting, symptomatic congenital lacrimal fistulas, as well as the cornea, sclera and retina. A folding engraved plate contains 22 figures depicting optical geometry as related to sight. The title-page of this work refers to a second work often found following the work of Boerhaave, that being by Joannis Sigismundus Leincker, an 87 page dissertation on "Anatomica de Tunica Oculi Choroidea," not ever present with this copy.
