332 pages. The Chicago Golf Club is perennially ranked among the top fifty best golf courses in the world. The current course at Chicago is a creation of Seth Raynor, who rebuilt the course in 1923. The newly The Prairie Raynor is a detailed analysis of the golf course that Raynor built. The book is 332 pages and more than one hundred pages are dedicated to a detailed hole-by-hole analysis of each of Chicago’s eighteen holes, each containing at least a half dozen color pictures; and accompanied by a sketch of the hole from tee to green. The book takes its title from the fact that the course, located in Wheaton, Illinois, is built on an open prairie. H. J. Whigham, C. B. Macdonald’s son-in-law said that “Raynor used to sit in the tower of the Wheaton clubhouse amazed at the magnificent sweep of that wide landscape and then he went down and produced a course that exactly fitted the prairie.”.
