A Prairie Year: Messages to Max

As a young boy growing up in Fargo, North Dakota, George showed an early interest in wildlife. It was not unusual for his mother to find him in the back yard photographing the local birds and flowers. Nurtured by his parents and their great love of the prairie, George studied biology and business at the University of North Dakota. While a student, he spent two summers at the Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center studying the food-handling behavior of the red fox. It was during this period that his love of the prairie and of photography converged and motivated him into a lifelong career using his photographs as a teaching tool. Many people grace their walls with his framed photos purchased in his gallery or at one of the many art shows in which he participated. He lived in Fargo with his wife and three children and began sending photographic notecards to his grandson, Max, when Max was 4 years old. George died in May of 2011.
