A Prayer for Home

Mrs. Muldoon wants to return home to Ireland after living many years in Boston, Massachusetts. She desires to be cured spiritually before embarking on her journey. Molly, a senior in high school, and her Nonna want to help fulfill her wish. They bring her to a faith healer Mrs. Muldoon has heard about in a seedy section of downtown Boston, as well as to the ocean on the Feast of the Assumption for a blessing in the sea that day. Will Mrs. Muldoon’s prayer for home be answered?

James Mulhern has published fiction in literary journals over forty times. In September of 2013, he was chosen as a finalist for the Tuscany Prize in Catholic Fiction. In 2015, Mr. Mulhern was awarded a fully paid writing fellowship to study at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Two short stories received Honorable Mentions for the Short Story America Prize, and one of those stories (a novella) was published in the Short Story America Anthology. Eleven short stories/adaptations from his novel, Molly Bonamici, a dark comic mystery set in Boston and South Florida, have been accepted for publication. In 2017, one of his short stories was published in an anthology of the best fiction published on the web during the previous twenty years. That same year, he was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in Fiction.
