Preaching as Image, Story, and Idea, the seventh in a series of books devoted to presenting examples of excellence in sermons as preached in parishes of the Episcopal Church, focuses on the way language in preaching captures our imagination. Some sermons paint a picture, while others tell a story. Still others express ideas and concepts that engage completely different parts of the imagination.

The collection includes winners of the 1997 Best Sermon Competition sponsored by the Episcopal Evangelism Foundation and also some of the best sermons and addresses from the tenth annual Preaching Excellence Program, including an address by Dr. Thomas Long, one of the preeminent homileticians teaching in the United States today.
