This is a humorous fiction novel - "Precepts and Practice" by Theodore Hook. 1857; Ward and Lock; London. The book features 10 full-page engraved plates by "PHIZ" (the pseudonym of H.K. Browne, who illustrated seven of Charles Dickens's novels) - all plates are present. Decorative gilt spine with embossed decorations on the covers. Hook was an English author and composer, known for his satirical and humorous works. Contents include "Life after Death," "The Widow's Dog," "The Man and His Master," "Wine and Water," "A Stir in the Household," "Civil War," "Fashionable Fictions," "Russian Police and English Prisons," "Odd People," "A Trip Over London," "Practical Jokes," and more.please see the photos for the complete list. Condition: There are some small stain spots on the front cover; the back cover has a vertical stain down the center. The green cloth on the spine has faded a bit. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Consistent mild foxing to the pages with occasional stains here and there. A name written in old pencil handwriting has been partially erased on the front pastedown. Bright gilt lettering on the spine. Previous owner's name stamped in ink on the title page. Four of the items listed on the contents page have a small "x" in pencil next to them. Overall the book is in Good condition.…
