Dare to read the extreme!
The Predator Attack! Extreme Reader introduces amazing facts about some of the most fascinating, and fierce, predators on earth including, alligator, bald eagle, barracuda, polar bear, komodo dragon, gray wolf, Tasmanian devil,
K-Gr. 2. From the alligator and the spitting cobra to the great white shark and the Bengal tiger, fierce wild animals are exciting drama in this Extreme Readers title. The exclamatory style is unnecessary. The facts and close-up action photos are more than enough to show new readers how thrilling science can be and how reading can take them across land, sea, and air all over the world. On each double-page spread, readers will see a big color photo and a small map showing where the animal lives; there are also several short, clear sentences about how each creature hunts--and gets--its prey. It's mostly about the terror ("when a seal pops up for air, this polar bear will pounce on it"), but surprising information appears, too: "Cheetahs' claws provide good traction because they do not retract." Even the small badger is trouble: "Do not let this sweet face fool you". The worldview and the scary photos are a great combination. Hazel Rochman
