Preference Heterogeneity and Industrial Location

What attracts foreign investors to a Chinese province over another? Are there heterogeneous prefernces in those location decisions? This book presents an empirical investigation on Japanese investors' location choices in China and their heterogeneous preferences in those choices. Special attention is paid to the evolution of Japanese investors' location choices with respect to China's recent reorientation of its economic development strategy from its eastern coastal region to its western interior area. This study timely informs policy makers on the evaluation of the effectiveness of policies previously adopted in this reorientation and on the development of future policy recommendations. This book also provides a systematic methodological approach to detect and verify preference variations in Japanese plant location decisions. This book is addressed to professionals and also serve as general reading for studens in regional science and locaion analysis, FDI, China's economic development, and policy analysis.
