About this Item
A finely bound very scarce copy of this fascinating work looking into the revolutionary flights of the Wright brothers. Illustrated throughout, and written in the original French. A very scarce work. Written in the original French. With a half-title. Illustrated with a vignette to the title page, and twelve plates. Bound with many blanks to the rear. Collated from a copy held at the Library of Congress, complete. This work documents the work of the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, who were two American aviation pioneers. The brothers invented, built, and flew the first successful airplane, making their first flight in 1803 in their plane the Wright Flyer. The breakthrough creation was of their three-axis control system, which is still the standard on fixed-wing aircrafts today. They found their inspiration from bicycles, seeing the unstable bike and the control and balance that people had whilst riding them. This work looks in detail at the monumental work of the brothers, and how they developed the science behind their airplanes and flight. Europe took a negative stance against the Wright brothers at the time, disbelieving their flight, however this work is supportive of ths brothers. Written by Francois Peyrey, who was a French aviation journalist. From the library of the Irish international hot air balloonist Wilf Woollett. In a half crushed morocco binding. Externally, smart. Some light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very small closed tear to the fore edge of the half-title. Fine. Seller Inventory # 657P31
